Rotary Scholarship for Excellence 2020/2021
Despite the pandemic and cancellation of the traditional concert, RC Sarajevo continues the scholarship program targeting 20 high-school students via a transparent web application and interviews.
Since 2012 RC Sarajevo has run the “Rotary Scholarship for Excellence” to reward academic achievement, promote Rotary’s mission and strengthen the local community. Each September the project launches a new cycle in cooperation with seven high schools in Sarajevo, including SOS Kinderdorf.
Because of COVID-19 we had to cancel the traditional concert planned for 21 March 2020, which reduced the number of scholarships we could award. Nevertheless, the strong quality of previous applicants and the evident need for the program encouraged us—together with sponsors and District support—to plan a return to pre-pandemic budgets.
For the Rotarian year 2020/21 our goal is to fund 20 high-school students through a trusted web application and interview process, anticipating 60–80 applicants. Scholarships go to students who excel academically and in extracurricular activities. Each recipient will obtain 100 BAM per month for nine consecutive months, paid to their account or their parents’, and the remaining funds will be dedicated to organizing and promoting the co-founding event “Concert for Excellence.”
